Y’all know I am an avid coffee drinker. If you follow my social media accounts, you know I am in coffee shops far more often than my wallet would like. Unfortunately, coffee and other dark drinks (like soda), lead to stained teeth, which are about as cute as coffee breath is.
Fortunately, I came across Smile Brilliant! I have seen Smile Brilliant floating around Instagram for a while, so when they reached out to me about testing it out, I thought it was worth a shot. I have tried A LOT of teeth whitening products. Crest white strips (of all varieties, cause there are like 80 different types I swear), fancy toothpastes, random whitening strips that were on sale, and had never really had a ton of success. While professional whitening sounded great in theory, the price for just one session always baffles me and I can never bring myself to do it.
And then I stumbled into Smile Brilliant. The company focuses on professional teeth whitening in the comfort of your home. I was a bit wary at first when I realized I had to take MY OWN IMPRESSIONS. That was frightening, but the instructions are so simple that I got it right on the first try (although they send enough for you to make two if you do have a slip).
Okay, to the nitty gritty here. I decided to rank them on sensitivity, time, and overall effect:
These do require a decent amount of your time, but, the trays that the whitening gel goes in are comfortable enough that I had no trouble working on homework, meal prepping, or making a quick target run while whitening. I generally whitened for an hour to an hour and a half every other day, which was then followed by the desensitizing gel. While the time frame seems long, since the trays are so comfortable, it really felt pretty normal, which I really liked. I would give them a solid 10 here.
Okay, this is where I really started having problems. I wore the desensitizing gel after each whitening session and still experienced a pretty high amount of sensitivity. If your teeth are already sensitive to most things, this may not be the whitening system for you. I was fine working through the sensitivity and it did not stop me from continuing to use the product, but it was a bit of a nuisance. To be fair, all whitening systems are going to lead to some sensitivity, but a girl can dream that a product will evolve to solve this issue for me. This is the main reason I chose to whiten every other day, which did help mitigate the issue. I would give it about a 6 here, as the sensitivity isn’t the worst thing in the world, but was irritating.
I noticed my teeth looked whiter after just one session. I would say after 2-3 sessions my teeth became noticeably whiter. The speed of the results is something that I thought was really awesome, and a huge bonus for the product itself, as most whitening systems take two or more weeks to really get results. Another thing that is awesome is that each tube of whitening comes with several applications, so I think while the kit itself is initially expensive, you get several treatments out of just the base kit, increasing its overall value. I would give them a 10 here as well. I truly don’t feel the pictures demo the change as well as they ought to. A big problem with this is that my camera quality for these was pretty low, but you can also check out more before and after photos on their instagram page!
Overall, I had a positive experience with Smile Brilliant. The only real downfall I had is a busy schedule that sometimes made it more difficult to get home early enough to put the trays in and the sensitivity I experienced. The results were well worth the sensitivity I did experience in the end.
